Don’t suffer needlessly from ingrown hairs.

Ingrown hairs are common among patients who wax, shave, or use other hair removal methods. An ingrown hair can lead to a cyst that develops underneath the skin’s surface. The resulting bump can be painful and unsightly.

Just one in-office cortisone shot can bring down inflammation that is keeping the ingrown hair trapped below the surface of the skin. The entire appointment only takes about 15 minutes.

After determining that you are experiencing an ingrown hair, our skincare professional will inject cortisone into the base of the developed cyst. The swelling will come down within 48 hours. The ingrown hair falls out with some mild exfoliation.

    ingrown hairs

Ingrown hairs are most common on the armpits, legs, bikini area, and face. With any type of hair removal, the new hair that grows into place can curl down or grow sideways. The hair removal process itself can also cause swelling and irritation. When the pore closes, the hair is ingrown, or stuck. The skin's natural response to this is to become inflamed.

    What to Expect

    • There is very little discomfort and no downtime. You can return to work or other activities immediately.
    • If you have a special event coming up, schedule your appointment ahead of time. While a cortisone shot will provide instant pain relief, the swelling itself takes a couple of days to resolve.
    • Most patients only need one cortisone shot. Another shot may only be needed if there is another ingrown hair.
    • This treatment should be avoided if you are allergic to cortisone.
