This formulation of JUVÉDERM was developed to allow the delicate skin of the lips to tolerate the treatment well. JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC is a softer, thinner variation of the same substance used in other JUVÉDERM injections. The bonding and hyaluronic acid concentration in this variation are designed for use in the lip area.
JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC works as a dual treatment for both the fine line smoothing around the lips and the augmentation of plumpness and volume of the lips themselves. It also is effective when an individual wants to add lip line definition. It can also be used to add definition to the lip line. The effects of JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC are temporary, and their duration differs from patient to patient.
JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC works similarly to other JUVÉDERM products that contain hyaluronic acid, or HA, as the active ingredient. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that naturally occurs in the human body. The most prevalent instances of hyaluronic acid occur in the joints and the fluids of the eyes. Hyaluronic acid has the ability to absorb water like a sponge, which helps add volume beneath the skin.
Both collagen production and hyaluronic acid production tend to decrease as a person advances in age. This is one factor that contributes to wrinkles. JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC injections contain hyaluronic acid that is combined with water and a small amount of lidocaine. The addition of lidocaine to the injection formula allows for the omission of lidocaine injections during the procedure.
No prior preparation is usually needed for the JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC injection, as it is a non-surgical treatment. It is recommended that patients stay out of the sun and avoid exercise, consuming alcoholic beverages, and wearing makeup for a minimum of 24 hours following the injections.
The appointment takes anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes on average, and is dependent on how many injections are needed. TMost patients tolerate the injection well, though a sensation of pressure may be felt when the formula is injected. The number of appointments varies by patient, and over time the formula is naturally broken down and absorbed by the body. JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC was approved by the US Food And Drug Administration in 2016.
JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC is not ideal for everyone. Those who have allergies to gram-positive bacterial proteins or an allergy to lidocaine should not get the injection. JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC is intended for the use in adults who are at least 21 years of age. There are no established studies of JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC on pregnant or breastfeeding women.
