Laser skin resurfacing is a skin treatment that utilizes lasers to improve the appearance and texture of skin.

Laser skin resurfacing can help treat the following skin issues:

    • Age spots
    • Scars
    • Acne scars
    • Fine lines and wrinkles
    • Sagging skin
    • Uneven skin tone
    • Crow’s feet
    • Warts
    • Enlarged oil glands

Laser skin resurfacing may offer the following benefits:

    • Minimize the appearance of sun damage and age spots
    • Smooth facial wrinkles and folds
    • Tighten skin and boost collagen production
    • Remove acne and surgical scars
    • Remove unwanted facial or body hair

    How to Prepare For Treatment

To reduce the risk of side effects after treatment, patients should speak to their doctor about any conditions they have or medication they’re currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs. Patients should stop taking aspirin and quit smoking for at least two weeks prior to treatment.

    The Equipment We Use

At The Bliss Room, our skin practitioners use the Spectrum Laser/IPL System to provide skin resurfacing treatment. The system includes the following types of lasers:

    1. 810-Diode for laser hair removal

The laser can provide up to 10 pulses per second and has built-in contact cooling.

    2. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

The IPL laser has four filters that can be used for acne reduction, vascular and pigmented lesions removal, and hair reduction.

    3. Q-Switched Yag/KTP for tattoo removal

This specific laser is used to remove tattoo pigment.

    4. Long Pulsed Yag for vascular reduction

Treatment with this laser can help reduce the appearance of spider veins and other types of vascular lesions.

    5. Erbium Yag for skin resurfacing

This laser is used during skin resurfacing treatment to minimize the appearance of mild to moderate fine lines and wrinkles, and treat hyperpigmentation.

Patients will need to speak to their skincare professional to determine which laser is best for their skin type and treatment goals.

    What to Expect During Treatment

Before treatment can begin, the skincare practitioner will cleanse the skin and apply a topical anesthetic to the treatment area. This is done to minimize discomfort and pain during the procedure.

The practitioner will then select the agreed upon laser and slowly move the device across the patient’s skin. Depending on the treatment area, the practitioner may apply wraps at the end of the procedure to protect the skin.

Patients are able to leave immediately after the procedure.

    Potential Side Effects And Risks

After treatment, patients may experience burning, bumps, rash, swelling, infection, hyperpigmentation, scars, and redness.

How to Protect The Skin After Treatment

Patient’s skin will need three to 10 days to heal, depending on the size of the treatment area and the depth of the laser. Full recovery may require up to three weeks.

During recovery, patients’ skin may be very red and peel. Ice packs may be used to minimize swelling.

Patients should avoid public areas, such as gyms, to minimize their risk of infection. In addition, they’ll need to clean the treatment area two to five times per day using a saline or vinegar-based solution. A skincare practitioner will also provide instructions for cleaning dressings and applying a moisturizer daily.
