JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC is the variation of JUVÉDERM that has been developed to treat moderate to severe wrinkles and lines in the nose and mouth regions.
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC is specifically formulated to be used for the parentheses around the mouth and nasolabial folds. The VOLLURE™ XC variation of JUVÉDERM utilizes Vycross Technology, which allows for the results to last longer than the original formula and gives the injector the ability to contour the area that is treated.
While its predecessors only promised lasting results from between six months and a year, JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC has been shown to have lasting results for up to 18 months following the initial session. The results of JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC are also considered to be more natural looking than that of other filler type treatments.
How JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC Works
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC is a mixture of water, hyaluronic acid, and lidocaine that is injected into the dermis, or the subsurface skin layer. The dermis is the layer that is made up of sweat glands, oil glands, blood vessels, connective tissue, and nerve endings.
Hyaluronic acid is the active ingredient in JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC, and it is also a substance that is naturally abundant throughout the body. Hyaluronic acid is present in the eyes, joints, and skin. It has a hydrating effect on the skin and promotes the production of collagen. The reason that advanced age causes fine lines and wrinkles to form is because of the decrease in collagen and hyaluronic acid levels in the skin over time. When hyaluronic acid is combined with water, it forms into a gel-like substance that provides a boost of volume under the skin. This works to smooth out the lines and wrinkles for a more youthful appearance of the face.
The XC component is indicative of the inclusion of lidocaine in the injections. The use of lidocaine injections prior to the JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC injections will not be needed, saving both the physician and the patient time. The inclusion of lidocaine has proven to be just as effective as pre-procedure lidocaine injections, but without the pain that is associated with additional needle pricks.
The JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC Procedure
The procedure for JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC is non-surgical and involves the use of the injection of the specialized formula. No recovery or downtime post-procedure will be necessary, because the type of anesthesia that causes impairment is not used. The JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC procedure is not typically painful and most patients experience minimal to no discomfort. Sometimes, a topical numbing cream may be utilized before the injections are administered.
Usually, individuals feel a slight sensation of pressure in the area being injected. The appointment usually lasts between 15 minutes and an hour depending on the number of injections a patient will be receiving. The use of a topical numbing cream may increase the appointment time by 20 to 45 minutes. In most cases, only one treatment appointment for optimal effects will be necessary. In order to maintain results that last for more than 12 to 18 months, repeat or touch up injections will be needed.
It is recommended that a patient who has had JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC avoid strenuous exercise activities, limit exposure to the sun, and cease the consumption of alcohol containing beverages for at least 24 hours following the appointment.
