JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is used for increasing the fullness of lips and reducing facial wrinkles. It is most often used to treat the wrinkles that form on either side of the mouth, often called smile lines or laugh lines.
The main objective of this injection is to increase the volume underneath the skin so that it plumps it up. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC effects last on average between six months and a year.
JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC injections utilize hyaluronic acid, or HA, lidocaine or a local anesthetic, and water.
Hyaluronic acid is the most prevalent dermal filler used in the United States today. Additionally, rather then having to undergo injections of lidocaine separate from the JUVÉDERM® injections, JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC has 0.3 percent lidocaine included in the injections. This allows for the single injection used in the appointment.
With JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC injections, no downtime is needed after the injections are administered. However, it is recommended that patients avoid exposure to the sun, any exercises that are strenuous, and beverages that contain alcohol within the first 24 hours.
The professional who is administering the injections will cleanse the area being treated first. The injections themselves should generally be painless, but tingling and some pressure may be felt upon injection of the material. Depending on how many injections are being administered, the appointment can take up to an hour. The effects of JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC can be apparent almost immediately. JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is a safe soft tissue filler that was approved by the U.S. Food And Drug Administration in 2010.
JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC is intended for use on adults age 21 and older. It is not ideal for any individual who has an allergy to lidocaine. The effects of JUVÉDERM® Ultra XC on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding have not been established.
