    Brazilian Butt Lift

A Brazilian butt lift is a cosmetic procedure designed to create more volume in the buttocks through fat grafting. This procedure is an option for those who would like more permanent results, instead of solely relying on exercise.

Benefits of a Brazilian Butt Lift

Unlike silicone buttock implants, a Brazilian butt lift provides more natural-looking results without the discomfort of implants.

    Other benefits include:

    • Address issues that come with age, such as sagging and shapelessness
    • Correct figure imbalances
    • Reduce the risk of infection, compared to silicone buttock implants

    Who is a Candidate?

The Brazilian butt lift may be an option for individuals who:

    • Lost their natural shape as a result of age or weight fluctuations
    • Feel uncomfortable in their clothes
    • Have sufficient fat stores in their body for grafting
    • Don’t smoke
    • Have a healthy weight
    • Lead a healthy lifestyle and exercise regularly
    • Have not had any recent infections or surgery-related complications

    Brazilian Butt Lift Alternatives

Before scheduling a Brazilian butt lift procedure, patients should research other options to determine which one is the best for them.

Sculptra butt lift. Considered off-label use by the FDA, Sculptra in the buttocks involves injecting a dermal filler to add volume. Sculptra may be used in conjunction with a Brazilian butt lift.

Silicone butt implants. This invasive procedure involves placing silicone implants into the buttocks. The procedure may be performed in conjunction with a Brazilian butt lift, however there will still be a long-term risk of displacement.

Liposuction. Patients with excess fat stores in the gluteal area may benefit from removing fat in order to create more roundness. In these instances, patients will only need fat removal.

    Potential Side Effects and Risks

Prior to undergoing surgery, patients should understand and accept the risk of side effects:

    • Scarring
    • Pain
    • Infection
    • Lumps under the skin in treatment areas
    • Loss of skin in treatment areas due to deep infection
    • Fat embolism in the heart or lungs, which can be fatal
    • Failure of the buttocks to accept the grafted fat stores

What to Expect During the Procedure

Patients who only need a small volume of fat transferred may only require local anesthesia, while patients looking for more visible results may need general anesthesia.

The surgeon begins the procedure by using liposuction to remove fat from other areas of the body, such as the thighs, stomach, and hips. Liposuction involves using a tube to remove fat from the body.

Next, the surgeon will purify the fat and prepare it for injection into the buttocks. He or she will make three to five incisions and inject the fat into specific areas of the buttocks to create a rounded, full look.

The liposuction and fat transfer incisions will be closed with stitches and the surgeon will apply a compression garment to the affected areas to reduce the risk of bleeding.

    The Recovery Process

Patients will not be able to sit on their butt for two weeks after surgery and will need to avoid sleeping on their back until the treatment area has healed completely. Patients may have swollen buttocks for several weeks and may require more than one procedure to achieve the desired results.

Full results are typically seen around six months after the initial procedure and usually last from several months to a few years. Patients can increase the chances of a positive outcome by maintaining a steady weight.
